SAARC Mission

SAARC (Seattle/King County African American Reparations Committee) is a Black-led coalition advocating for reparations policy work in Washington State, with focus on Seattle and King County. Our local organizing aligns with regional and national reparations efforts to redress US chattel slavery and its unique harms to Black peoples. We design our organizing to move from harm to healing. Our research examines economic and social disparities that US direct descendants and our broader communities face. Our movement strategy is grounded in Black radical imagination, Beloved community, and US multiracial democracy.

SAARC Vision

We envision a greater society where anti-Black racism is dismantled. Our goal is to see robust reparations policy work in Washington state for direct descendants of US chattel slavery by 2030 aligned with broader national and global efforts. Through reparations advocacy and organizing, we build Black political power with strong coalitions to create political, economic, and social systems where everyone can thrive in the USA.
